Our fur is exceptional as you see.
| The coyote is found throughout North America. It once ranged from the northwest corner of the US, but a natural progression, caused by human proximity, brought about changes. Over 200 years the coyote extended this range and now even sightings in Florida, New England and eastern Canada are common. |

The coyote found in low desert valleys weigh approximately 20 pounds, less than half of those from the mountainous regions. The desert coyote is light gray or tan with a black tip on the tail. Coyotes in the higher elevations have fur that is thicker and darker and longer. The belly fur is white. In the winter coyotes from this region have long and silky fur to help protect them from the elements; the winters can be harsh but the coyote is a good survivor. They howl at night a high quavering howl and a series of short, high piched yips! Howling is used to keep in touch with other coyotes in the area and sometimes you will hear a response of a single coyote or several coyotes howling. Truly a song to be heard and one that every trapper really enjoys hearing.
