Bobcat

Texas is part of the USA that we trap and this is a picture
of a Bobcat from that location

The Bobcat is a beautiful animal that prefers a rocky canyon or outcrop. In Texas they associate more with chaparral. In some areas where the terrain is not so rocky, they will seek protection in thickets, junipers or pinyon pines. Bobcats are adapable like most animals they learn to deal with the close proximity of man. They blend in so well with the landscape that you could be almost on top of a Bobcat and not see it.

They are more active at night but it is still possible to see a Bobcat making its way up a wooded bank to a rocky outcrop during the day. You are more likely to know the Bobcat is in a location from the small piles of leaves and sticks that they urinate on along their travel route. Bobcats will seek refuge in trees when available if they they feel threatened. They eat small mammals, ground squirrals, mice, rabbits; sometimes they prey upon domestic animals.

Breeding season begins around February with a gestation period of 60 days. Between 2 to 7 kittens are born but an average litter is 3. The young have a good coat of fur which is spotted at birth and their eyes open in around 9 days. They are fully weaned by the time they are 2 months old. They will begin to look after themselves by the fall.
